Our Pastor
Walter Read was born and raised in Toronto, graduating from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Production Engineering Technology. After being sent to Sunday School at an Anglican church, Walter turned his back on the Institutional Church and spent a number of years as an Industrial Engineer. He came to a saving faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 32, being confirmed to the faith in a United Church in Orangeville, Ontario. After a period of search and reflection, Walter was ordained a minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church in Canada, after 5 ˝ years of study. The initial intention was to be a chaplain in industry. No such ministry was available. So, after more prayer and reflection, the call became clarified to preparing the laity for ministry in the world. Walter is married to Margaret and they have a son John, who is preparing for ministry. John is married to Elaine. Margaret is a Church Educator (education for all ages in the church) in the Presbyterian Church in Canada. ‘Jesus is Lord’ is central to Walter's understanding of faith. Everyone is made for a purpose. In coming to Jesus Christ, we are called to discover who we are in Him. In Jesus Christ, we find our reason to be and our purpose in life. Walter enjoys documentaries and mystery programs. His main exercise is a power walk of one-hour, five or six times a week. It is a good time to pray and reflect. It is also important to be involved in the whole church. It was such a joy to experience an Alpha worship celebration, representing over 40 different denominations of the church of Jesus Christ.
